Central Association SoftBall League

About Us

CASB was originally organized as a YMCA Church League in the early 1960's using fields in the City of Phoenix parks.  In the mid 60's, the league was reorganized as a function of Central Association of Southern Baptist (CASB), a metro-Phoenix Mission's organization.  From the mid 60's until the late 70's, the league consisted of men's and women's adult fast pitch teams from predominantly Southern Baptist Churches from Central Association and a few from suburban Southern Baptist Associations.  From the late 70's to 1989, the league continued to use city owned fields but started to incorporate men and women's slow pitch teams.

In 1989, with increasing difficulty in obtaining city fields, two fields were constructed on private property owned by First Southern Baptist Church, 3100 W. Camelback Rd. Phoenix, AZ.  Although these fields were used most exclusively for CASB League games, some city fields were still used due to the popularity of the league and the continuance of fast pitch teams while the interest in slow pitch continued to bring in new teams.  From 1990 through the mid 90's, there continued a transition from the fast pitch teams to predominantly Men's, Women's and Co-Ed slow pitch teams.  Also, churches were represented by more denominations other than Southern Baptist.  Due to this transition of church representation, the league changed from Central Association of Southern Baptists administration to Central Association Softball League, a private church league administered through the church office at FSBC, Phoenix.

From the mid 90's to current, the league has been totally non-denominational with Men, Women and Co-Ed teams.  Since approximately 1998, Women's slow pitch was phased out due to lack of teams.  Currently, the league operates a Fall Season and a Spring/Summer season.

The league is certified by the United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA).  All teams pay an annual registration fee that provides liability insurance for league directors and USSSA umpires.
